Camp Stone

Better than “Camp Dust”???

Just a quick post as I’ve not had a chance to get pictures off my camera or to concoct clever posts.  The photos here are courtesy of the Herat Area Office’s share drive.

Camp Stone is about 18 km south of the city of Herat and not too large, at least compared to Bagram.

Hopefully more details of the travels (and living arrangements) soon! 🙂

    • The mountains are a bit father away, but more jagged. Can’t see many from here in SHindand, but more in Herat. None showing in the photo above though… 🙂

  3. Hi Kim, Thanks for your blogs! I’ve been reading since I’m on my way to Camp Stone … I’ve been wondering, how is the internet there?? Can you actually download anything? or even Skype?

    Thanks!!

    • Glad the blog was a help! Internet connectivity varies from site to site and even within the site due to weather, number of users, etc. At Bagram trying to Skype was frustrating and pointless. Here at Shindnad it was pretty good, but then the .com provider was kicked off base (they are arranging another). The USO computers/Skyping works well, but usually a time limit. Good luck!

    • No, I’ve been back home for a couple of months now, and really didn’t spend a lot of time at Stone, but there isn’t much difference from one FOB to the next. 🙂 Take care and thanks for checking in…

    • Lucky you! This time of year Camp Stone is like Hotel California – difficult to get out of once you’re there (due to weather issues like snow, ice, fog, etc). Hope you didn’t get stuck! 🙂
